Anyone can install a panel. The decision is what it does when there is no sun

Solar PV generation and gas-engine cogeneration, both as distributed generation. Sized on your measured load profile, not on your annual consumption divided by twelve.

The problem

Your demand peak happens when solar generation is worth zero

The most common mistake in an industrial solar project is sizing it against annual consumption. That produces a big number and an attractive proposal, and it also produces a system that generates at midday while the plant's billable peak happens at seven in the evening.

The result is a bill that drops less than promised and a demand charge that did not move. It is not a panel problem: it is the problem of designing without measuring.

Cogeneration solves something else. If your plant already burns fuel to produce heat continuously, it is throwing away 60 to 70 percent of that fuel's primary energy. Recovering that heat and generating electricity with the same fuel is the only case in which producing your own energy is more efficient than buying it.

The lines in this family

Two ways to generate on site, for two different problems

Solar lowers the cost of daytime energy. Cogeneration makes use of a fuel you are already buying. They do not compete: the choice depends on your plant's thermal profile.

Signs it applies

What to check before sizing

01

Available area and its orientation

Roof, parking lot or ground. The area sets the project's ceiling; orientation and shading define what it will actually produce.

02

When your peak happens

If your peak is at night or in the early morning, solar alone will not touch it. That fact decides whether the project needs storage to make sense.

03

Boiler running more than 6,000 hours a year

That is the practical threshold for cogeneration. Without continuous thermal demand there is no heat to recover and the gas engine becomes an expensive generator.

04

What you do with the heat today

Process hot water, steam, or chilled water through an absorption chiller. The recovery scheme and much of the payback depend on it.

How it is verified

With your bill and a site visit we measure what is needed. And if the curve says solar covers 20% and not the 60% you were promised, we tell you with the chart on the table.

How we work

Four steps, always the same

01

Advisory

Measured load profile, area, orientation and —when applicable— the heat balance of your process. Nothing is sized on annual consumption.

02

Design and installation

Engineering, supply, structure, electromechanical works, integration and commissioning. With baseline metering before energizing.

03

Permits

Interconnection under distributed generation. Solar under exempt generation below 0.7 MW; cogeneration under the distributed generation scheme that applies.

04

Monitoring

Monitoring, generation reporting and a GTO Vigía contract. A system without O&M loses production silently, and the loss adds up all year.

When it is not for you

For some plants, on-site generation does not make sense yet

We tell you at the first meeting

If your plant has no continuous thermal demand, cogeneration is not for you. Without a boiler running many hours a year there is no useful heat to recover, and without that a gas engine is just expensive electricity.

If your power factor is below 0.97 or you have high harmonic distortion, correcting that costs a fraction of a solar project and pays back faster. Correct first, generate later.

If your roof has less than five years of service life left, the system will outlast the roof sheeting. That can be solved, but it has to be costed before signing, not after.

And if your interest is in utility scale or in permitted self-supply above 0.7 MW, that project is also done here: it is developed by GIS Power, part of the same group, which currently evaluates projects above ten megawatts. We do the assessment and the introduction, and we stay at the table.

Strengths

What backs every project

GTO Energy offers electrical engineering tailored to your plant. Request your diagnostic and start by knowing where the opportunity is.

01

Diagnostic with no down payment

Fully creditable if you implement. No charge if we find no package that pays back in under 4 years.

02

Current regulation

Compliance reports based on RES/550/2021, filed with the CNE and CENACE.

03

Third-party systems

We service plants installed by others, starting with a condition survey.
